The threads just say how many cpu's maxwell should use for rendering. So if there is just one 2 threads is not giving you an advantage, but perhaps a disadvantage. The same for hyperthreading or quad-cpu system. They might go faster, but with a fix for 1 thread they are like driving a ferrari in the second gear and no possibility to shift up, because they might use more threads.

So restrict it to one thread to compare the real times with one thread, or provide version with 1,2 and 4 threads. However you like.

edit: i'll have a look at the manual to render it with 15 samples. thanks mihai.

If someone will test this on a dual machine, then they need to set the threads to at least 2, otherwise the second processor will idle and it is not an accurate benchmark of their particular machine.

ok, thanks!
What i wanted to know is how users could change numbers of threads, if i give just one file. So it is possible with the commands, but what i've noticed here on forums, is that lot of people don't use them.

Set at 1 thread for one Processor non HT
Set at 2 threads for one Processor with HT enabled (HyperThreading), that simules 2 logical processors, or with a Dual-Processor non HT
Set at 4 threads for a dual-processor with HT enabled
Set at 8 threads for a quad-processor with HT enabled

If this test wasn´t ment to be tested im sorry, but I had no time reading all the post back and forward to understand it correctly :)

We (the maxwell community) did some similar tests sometimes ago.
As Mihai said, you should record the time your computer need to reach a defined sampling level (i.e. level 15).

As far as I know, concerning the thread thing, the more threads enabled the better. some tests with alpha 1.33 :http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... ht=threads
