I was testing a lot, and searching a lot. yet I still don't understand how to determine the properties of an image file that I want to save as MXI for using as emitter, since it's always too weak or white ... How do you setup an mxi emitter from an image? like presets for tv screen etc. ?

you load an image and change it's intensity in one of the tabs (i guess it's preview / mxi, not sure right now).

there are two settings at the bottom of the tab, aperture and intensity. set them as you want, testrender, correct them and so on.
at least, that's how i do this ;)

Choo-chee, try this step by step:
- copy the fStop value from the camera parameters of your scene
- open mxcl.exe -d
- load your hdr (mxi) or ldr (jpg, png or whatever) image
- in preview tab, adjust the fStop slider to match your camera fStop
- adjust the Intensity slider to get your desired fower of mxi emitter.
- save the mxi file
