The example shown below shows an X spinning. It creates a square, where it should really be making a disc.

It's most noticeable with a spinning cylinder, where the sides of the cylinder become clear and almost disappear, where in reality there would be no change except for a blurred surface.

Is there a fix in the works?

(BUMP)

Really, nobody else has a comment? NL? This is actually a big deal. Even Final Render gets it right.
I made an example of a cylinder. I'm doing action shots for a tool company and spinning parts are common.

I also got comparable results - which I think are wrong...

How much is the object being rotated between each frame? Maxwell currently only handles 1 subframe for motionblur, it might look ok if you try with lower rotation values between frames.

My example was a more extreme example, but the effect is the same no matter how much blur is evident. In this case it was like 60 rotations per frame (I think). Which is a lot, but -any- rotational blur is messed up, no matter the speed.

It depends how much the object is rotating between each frame, before it starts looking obviously linear. If you want to make it look like a completely circular blur I'm afraid it's not going to work.

Rotational (any non- linear) blur not rendering correctly has been known for quite some time. Maxwell is in need of more sub steps when using motion blur. Maybe a future update will resolve this?

In the meantime, for static images, I use a lower amount of rotation for motion blur with some postwork to 'round' out the blur.

Although a niggly fault it's still nice to have blurred shadows and motion blur showing in reflections - can Final Render do that?

Not sure if final render can do that, I dropped it years ago. (go maxwell!)
