I am curious if anyone has an opinion on the quality of the images produced by Maxwell in different versions? Let me just first preface this discussion with the fact that I am extremely impressed with Maxwell and the quality it produces. I also know the result is supposed to be unbiased so there should not be any difference(?)

But still I cannot rid myself from a feeling that the images produced with the first versions of the program had a warmth to them that I find lacking recently.

Maybe it was just that I got very lucky on the first couple of images I did but I find that I am tweaking more these days to get the same result as I got initially in the older versions.

Am I hallucinating or is there some quality that has been lost?

i liked the warmth of the early beta too..nothing beats rendering sofa cushions that look like they're made of concrete..chuckle

I don't know how to name the feeling of beta, but it was wonderful.... Then, during the RC releases, everything was lost... I guess it was impossible to have some improvements with the beta engine. I must say that the simplicity and the ease of use of the beta is lost too... But the power of present engine is great! I guess with a little more work or postprossesing it is possible to have that warm beta mood

That's what i thought until i tried again the beta vs the 1.5, and i think the more-realist impression came from the big quantity of noise we had
The simple use of Beta is here again since everything is ok with the Max plug, but it's my opinion

I think that we have all gotten use to seeing unbias renders.
Back in the Beta days it was all very new and fresh
now a few years down the line its become the norm!

Just my to pennies worth 8)

And i agree with def4d about how simple to use with the max plugin :D

I do think the beta had a different feel to the renders, but also agree that it could be because it was such a new thing at the time. We've just gotten used to it.

Now from beta to RC was definitely a difference in quality. A bad one.

Mr. X sells his old Ford built in '90s and buys a Ferrari.

1st day driving Ferrari: wow incredible, best car ever

1st month driving Ferrari: drive, drive, drive, drive, drive, drive.

6th month driving Ferrari: drive.

1st year driving Ferrari: used to drive Ferrari, he thinks Ferrari could improve this product.

...btw he has a ferrari under his ass. He's used, but .. a Ferrari.

(and.. for warmer/cooler/edited render photoshop or similar is a must for giving final look to renders)

Edit:
@bubbaloo: i have a ford in my garage :D
