Maxwell seems to have developed a strange, rather annoying issue. When I try to render, I get this message: "ERROR: - Maximum number of licenses reached. Render cannot continue. To render on this computer, you must first shut down one or more instances of mxcl running on other networked computers, then restart this mxcl application."

I have no network at home, and there's no other instances of Mxcl running in the background. I've rebooted and re-installed. To no avail.

Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a decent solution for this?

Please provide more info - system, version of MXCL used. Did this start to happen after an upgrade?

Same error here.

Maxwell was running without a problem on my mac pro (2007) 3 Ghz 2 weeks ago.

I had a problem and had to reinstall max OS X 10.5.2 (with all updates). I reinstalled maxwell 1.6 with patch 1.6.1 and Studio shows the correct license information, but when I try to render I get this:

ERROR: - Maximum number of licenses reached. Render cannot continue. To render on this computer, you must first shut down one or more instances of mxcl running on other networked computers, then restart this mxcl application.

My mac has a fixed IP address and there are no other instances of maxwell running with my license in my other machines. And as I said it was working fine before the fresh OS reinstall :-(

We have detected that in OSX sometimes license detection gets confused when there are several network ports with different IP's (it will be solved for the mext update). To solve this problem you must go to system preferences and disable all network interfaces except the one you use for connecting.

Hope it helps

Just uninstalled Maxwell 1.6.1 and installed 1.7 on my mac...

Same error, I can't render when plugged in to the ethernet network :-( It just says the maximum numbers of licenses reached ( I don't have any other instances of Maxwell running obviously).

1.7 didn't fix it.

This problem has been solved in mxcl 1.7.0.1 version for OSX. It's a OSX bugfix release. Download maxwell again from the download page even if it does not reports that's updated. It should solve this problem.

It should solve this problem.
It did. Works like a charm now.

Thanks Nacho.
