Working in studio, has anyone had success with using the matte option for materials? I utilized this often in 1.7 as was as easy as checking the 'matte on' button, and applying the material. Now, in V2 - when I check matte on a material and render....the object with the matte material is still visible in the scene and the alpha channel.

Same here: checking the matte option in Maya has no effect on the objects with the material applied.
It worked in Maxwell 1.7

Maxwell 2, Maya 2010, Mac OS X 10.5.8

Anyone else experiencing this? Or having a solution?

Is this a problem with a few people or everyone?

Has NL tested the matte channel in studio or maya where it is working? It would be good to know so I know if it is an issue with my computer/installation or a bug in the program.

I confirm this is a bug, but until it gets fixed can you describe your workflow with using the matte option? Maybe there is a simple workaround.

As I said before, I teach a class on the basics of Maxwell Studio. The college just switched the software over to v.2 this week, which is mid semester (probably not a good idea, given the number of small issues...but what is done is done)

Anyway, this week I was going over what each channel option does, how to utilize in post, etc. (this is why I asked all the questions about matte, shadow, etc). I can offer the students a work around, but wanted to make sure that it wasn't a local issue with the system I am testing on. Thanks for the confirmation.

We are also going over lighting, which is the reason for IES testing and questions. I may omit IES for now and integrate next semster.
