Fore example:

If I rotate a grouped set of parts 180 degrees and then want to move it along the x or y axis .. as soo as I grab it .. it moves to teh new position but at the same time it flips back 180 degrees to its original position....

is this a bug or am I doing something wrong.

I thought this was a known issue already. But yes it happens to me all the time in studio. It's got several variations:

1: You translate a group in x y or z
2: later you want to rotate that group, as soon as you begin the rotation (mmb in the rotate field) the entire group snaps back to 0,0,0.
3: If you wrote down what the original translation was you can re-enter the numbers, then rotate and it works.

Happens in win64 with mr64 and in win32 with mr32.

Note = this same bugs seems to undo any scaling you've done to group members as well although this has been hard to verify.

I concur, I have all kinds of problems with objects moving around and scaling incorrectly in Studio.

Just curious if this is a known issue - I have a lot of sample files where as soon as you touch the rotation the parts move all over the place, whether they are grouped or not.

This used to be a problem but was fixed. If you have any scenes (as simple as possible) that demonstrate this behavior, please upload them.

Mihai,

The secret of this bug seems to do with importing objects from other .mxs files. Which is something I do often.

If you try to rotate an imported object that is not at 0,0,0 then the object's xyz coordinates are reset to 0,0,0 as soon as you begin rotating it. You cannot undo this.

There is more to it than this, but at least this demonstrates it simply. The effect is different for groups, object or multiple objects.

Here is a test with only a default mxstudio in it which I translated, saved and then imported into another mxs file. Pick the group that contains the backdrop object and try to rotate it......

Yes it seems for groups, the pivot position is not retained when importing it into Studio. It thinks the pivot should be at 0 so it snaps it there are soon as you try and rotate the group.

But do you get the same behavior trying to rotate the object inside that group? Does it rotate properly in this case?

It's hard to say, in a recent case, if I shift select the parts insidea group and try to rotate it works, except one of the parts goes flying away - and it's impossible to relocate in that case.
