transparency

I can't figure out how to make an object (i.e. glass) slightly transparent or translucent . My understanding is I assign it the dielectric material. I've tried different settings within this material, but it always looks black. Has anybody had success with this?

check out the thread in maxwell render about SSS (subsurface scattering).

I checked out the threads on SSS. Being the Maxwell newbie that I am, I am still confused. Perhaps I don't have enough patience to read everything to find the settings?

Answer me this if you would...I typically use 2D surface objects to represent glass. First question...Does Maxwell recognize translucent 2D surfaces? Should it be a 3D solid? Do I need a light source (emitter) behind the glass? If 2D surfaces are ok, what are the "translucent values" for:

Absorbance
Abbe Number
Nd Number
u Roughness
v Roughness

Thanks,
Dan

Adehus,

Will do. So, how do I make it translucent? There are a lot of examples of translucent glass, but I just can't seem to get it.
