MXMs and cross-platform rendering

Had an issue come up recently that I thought I'd share...

I work on a PC at my office, but have a Mac at home. At work, I built a model in formZ and had most surface styles assigned to MXMs. I took the model and all the supporting files home with me to render in Maxwell on my Mac. When I tried to write the MXS file, none of the MXMs were used. I checked their paths in formZ and they were still pointing back to my office computer. So I had to go through them one-by-one and repath them to the correct location.

I always put all of the MXMs, textures, and formZ model files in the same folder. So, why did this happen? Shouldn't the MXM's get read correctly if they're in the same folder? Is there a way to make the path to the MXM "relative"? Is there an easier way to fix this than editing the paths one at a time?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Right now it is not possible but actually this is very useful and we will try to do that for the next version, we will try the plugin searches missing mxm's in the project folder and we could also implement some kind of browser to replace missing materials.

Juan

Hi,

To keep you updated, in the next version the plugin will search for missing mxm's in the project folder and if they are not found it also asks the user for a replacement. We are pushing to release an update of the plugin as soon as possible, first wee are going to look into this issue:

and once it is fixed we will update it.
