Online rendering....?

I'm thinking... since MR can calculate on network computer, it would be awsome if, for example NL provided a render farm for a fee... e.g I need computing power for a render than a farm could do in 10 mins, where my xeon would take 2 days to render.... There could be huge machines able to process quicly for us...

Another stuff would be a SETI like soft so we would all be able to compute parts of other's render while computer is sleeping ( lunch breaks...)

Is it total utopia?

Nils, dreaming! ( 25th time i'm on the forum this day waitin for RC :)

good idea, same is used for the 'search the universe'project, with screensavers, when the screensaver starts, the computers starts rendering!

ask Tom, he can fix this, he has some time at the moment ;-)

Depends on how much data has to be transfered, iirc there's a project for testing a rendering grid in the open-source community evolving around Blender. For maxwell however in its current state i'm afraid the enormously large float-point image files each user creates can't be transferred over average broadband connections in a reasonable amount of time. So an dedicated farm like Matador seems the only answer atm.
