But... isn't Artlantis R also a standalone renderer that is not a 3D modeling program? As in, just like Maxwell but with less image quality? Doesn't make much sense to write a plugin for that when there are so many other things that don't have plugins.

Why don't you just skip Art*lantis and go directly to Maxwell?

This is so dumb I'm not going to explain why. Read the white paper on the 1.0RC and tell me if you think Maxwell is keeping the same workflow it's had in beta.
