If Maxwell renders the world... why throw most away...

Am I correct in assuming that to create an RGB render one must squeeze the 32bit/channel info into 8bit/channel? So if this is the case, why not be able to render right to raw. The whole shebang... the whole kitten kaboodle, the entire enchalada, the....errr... I think you get it.

Imagine just clicking render and walking away. Rendering directly to HDR format would eliminate the idea of exposure altogether. Then we could 'expose' using photoshop. We could create multiple exposures from a single render file... we could create hybrid images which includes detail from extremely bright and dim objects into the same image.

Oh please NL... please sir, I want HDRI. It would be seriously sweet.

Yeah, it's a good idea and Maxwell sort of does it already with the interactive ss and iso sliders. If they could allow saving a bitmap with predefined fstops that would be really nice.

Enough people have independently thought of this that it must be only a matter of time before it becomes implemented.
