Custom Primitives for MaxwellGrass

We don't have a lot of grass in the southwest... but we do have a lot of decomposed granite (rock) and I was wondering if, with the right primitive, the MaxwellGrass modifier might not fit the bill. For that I think we'd need to be able to select our own "primitive" (maybe an MSX file). It would be even better, for variety, if I could select several MSX files and have the modifier randomly distribute them across the object.
