deep data channel

I like to maxwell have this channel http://www.sfdm.scad.edu/faculty/mkesso ... index.html similar to render man , Its almost a year of the last update to maxwell, I hope any render engine comes closer , thanks

Is the data stored inside of an .mxi file similar (or at least convert-able) to what we would expect in a deep exr2 file?
The file sizes certainly suggest it. :)

okay. that was the one software I already knew about :)
does it even make sense to use deep for still images?

It can be very useful for any type of compositing. For instance if you wanted to use multiple render engines in one shot.
