Hi Everybody,
I have a 64 Opteron render machine. if i batch render from maya on it, i render a frame at a time.
Can i split those physical cores so that maxwell use say 2 cores per frames in aimation?
Thanks in advance!

The answer could be:
Opening multiple render nodes on the 64core machines?
Thanks for updating.

But there won't be any difference in total render time.

In fact you can't open multiple render node on a single machine? That would be perfect if we could!!
Let me know if this is possible by scriting.

As Bubbaloo said, total render time would be the same (or slower if ram goes out.)
I'm curious, what are the reason for you to want/need this feature?
And yes, it is doable. Don't know if it works with pymaxwell internally but you can at least start separate maxwell processes with batch.
If you think about using maxwell own network I doubt it can, unless you do some virtual stuff and use several "sets" of manager and nodes on same physical machines. But then again why?

I'm not sure render time will be slower. I sometimes render a few sessions together on the same machine and somehow they all reach same SL like the SL of a single render... couldn't understand how but it does happen.

Exactly, thiis is what i do!
This machine is so powerful that i can push 6 images at 6000x4500 at the same time and rendertime is the same! So it seems that maxwell can't use maximum power in terms of RAM itself!
Please Nl cinfirm that see what you can do... Thanks

I dont believe you
If your single render isnt maxing the cpu, then somethings wrong, make sure you set the threads to 0 (default)

it happens.
it takes the same time - maybe only in low SL since you can't feel too much difference - to render 1 image and 3 images in 3 sessions simultaneously.

The scaling on high core count machines isn't absolutely linear, it does trail off the higher you go. Though Maxwell is better than other renderers in that regard. Generally its a result of the chipset and CPU architecture.
I'd encourage you to do some actual tests before reaching conclusions though. I posted some test results here awhile back on a 4 socket 48 core machine. It really depends on the scene whether or not you'd see a difference. And generally the longer the render time, any minimal advantage to running multiple frames decreases.
