Materials Preview for external references files in Maya

Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

Materials Preview for external references files in Maya

From time to time, the material previews dissapears and it shows a medium gray ball instead.
This happened only in external references, in maya 7 to 2012.
I wish I could see the materials previews for all my external references.
