A few key wishes....

Just had to switch a project from Maxwell over to Vray so thought I'd hit the wishlist with some of the stuff that caused me to do that. I know these have been asked for before at different times, but here goes anyway :)

1) Crop rendering out of Max. This is a big one when rendering large files. Too much time is lot with writing/transferring the full image MXI when only a small chunk is needed for test renders.

2) Ability to zoom and pan the ActiveShade/Fire window. This is also key when working on hi-res. I know it can be done in Studio but that too needs some work since it shifts the focus around and you cannot really zoom in very far without losing all focus. It needs to be a true pan/zoom that *only* affects the resolution.

These are critical workflow tools for me, and when working on 10K + renders they can be make or break.

Tks!

+1 on these.

Brett, Sorry to ask here but people often don't reply to personal messages, I would quite like to see the Max scene you posted on your site but I get a 'not found' message, is there anywhere else I can download it from?
Best

It would be interesting to know if a crop renders faster than a region. I have asked for this too in the past, but since then have gotten used to just using region renders. An advantage to the region render is that you have the full frame extents to help snap the image over your original image in the exact same place, then crop.

Region renders are what I use when doing additional *final* sections for comping, for sure. But I know for sure crop is faster just by testing running (for example) a 500X500 pixel render that is a zoomed in section of a higher res render (say a 10K). The problem with that is that it needs a different camera so it's never an exact match, and it takes time to set it up everytime. It's a passable workaround but far from ideal.

both of these are major! Lately I've been rendering at around 10,000 px as well , so it'd definitely be a huge benefit to be able to do a region fire view or zoom and pan. sometimes i feel like next limit forgets about us product render guys who have more precise lighting needs
:(

:) it may seem that way, but for sure they remember us. I've had some conversations with NL on some of these things and it's not that they don't care about these sorts of job needs.

NL's committment to the "unbiased" philosophy certainly has produced a great engine, but it also means stuff like this can be far more difficult to implement - or so it seems to me anyway.
