Displacement without subdivision

Currently you have to subdivide the heck out of your mesh in order to use displacement with good results. It would be nice if Maxwell could somehow do this at render time rather than having to do it in the modeling app.

It does subdivide the mesh during render time. That's what the precision setting is doing. But I understand what you are saying. All Maxwell needs is relatively uniform sized triangles to work with. The times that you will have problems is when you have very large and very small triangles on the mesh that you are applying displacement to. So you can get by with only cutting the mesh enough to make all of the polygons similar in size and close to square (not elongated).

Quite right. I know very little of vray but it's my understanding that it works just fine without having to subdivide the mesh in the modeler. I don't begin to know the nuances, but it would be nice to have the same capability with reasonable render times.
