Orthogonal Camera Projection

I'm wondering if it would be possible to give us an option for Orthogonal camera projections to allow us to render true Architectural Plans, Elevations, Sections, and Isometrics?
I know Maxwell uses a realistic camera model and Orthogonal projection is impossible in the real world but in regard to Architectural documentation, we have a real need for this type of rendering.
Cheers,
Andrew Novinc.

I think it's possible through Maxwell Studio, but not the plugins. What I do in Max is set the camera very far away from the subject and zoom in tight. It gives a very close representation of an orthographic view. You just have to make sure the camera and target are on the same Z elevation.

That's the rub, I really need to define my views precisely in my CAD package and have them export correctly to the MXS file. Even if I try to set up the view in Maxwell Studio, I can't seem to get it to give me an orthogonal view of an Isometric or an elevation that isn't one of the four cardinal views. I really need the flexibility of placing a camera but one that utilizes orthogonal projection.

That's what the MicroStation exporter does with it's orthogonal projections now, but it's a fudge. Sometimes we need a plan or elevation rendering printed out to scale and the only way that makes true sense is if the rendered image is orthogonal to start with.
Andrew.

Yes Orthogonal views/cameras would be very useful to all architects. That and the ability to more efficiently develop sections either by z-clipping the camera or other means.

It seems Indigo beat Maxwell here (as well as section cuts):

Maxwell has been able to do section cuts for a long time now.

Z-clipping is not the same thing as section cuts... section cuts can go in any direction, Z-Clipping only works in Z (from camera).

Jason.

somebody posted an image of , i think it was modo engine, which made use of volume clipping.
*found it:
>use any 3d shape to clip parts of your render.
that would be the most elegant solution imho.
on top of that , i'd be a good thing if maxwell could fill the sections automatically if a closed mesh is cut, and if we could even define the color of the section cut on a per object or material level...

Ah ha, yes. Correct.
