Maxwell for Blender

I know this has been posted before, but I'm wondering what amount of people are waiting for this to be developed. I know I am, so that's 1, but if there's a substantial amount of people wanting this, something could perhaps be organised. Either by Next Limit or a Blender developer. I know of open source render engines for Blender and the new Cycles engine for Blender, but they still don't compare to Maxwell.

It is strange that we don't already have a blender plugin...

Btw. I think that, if Maxwell Studio would support animation, it would solve all problems with non-plug-in 3D programs. One could just export everything using something like FBX and import in studio. Would seem like a relatively easy and very interesting feature for Next Limit to create. Then Maxwell would support pretty much every 3d authoring program in existence.

Hi Rickyx,

thanks for the news ! I could consider making a donation to the developper, do you have a rough idea of how much it could cost ? Maybe we can consider "steps" in the developpment, depending on the donations.

Also the environment is moving quickly, with Cycles renderer and renderer/physical shader API, it might be worth to wait a bit for a better integration.. And projects like LuxRender and Indigo seem to be able to specific parameters already (camera, light, materials).

Are MR Material Editor and Studio aviable for linux or only the renderer ?

Cheers,

Victor

I consider API stable enought to start this work.

The problem (basicly a money problem) is to create interface for all the parameters of maxwell materials, camera, lights... I'll postpone this job, starting with a modest but certain step.

All maxwell render is multiplatform (Linux, Win, Mac), mxed and studio included.

As soon as I fix a price with the developer I'll comunicate here. Of course who will donate will be in contact with him.

Someone else interested?

Hey Rickyx, I would personally be very interested in even a basic pipeline plugin from Blender to Maxwell, and I would definitely donate towards the development if NextLimit doesn't help and leaves the task to the community.

I'd even be content with simple mxm linking, leaving out the issue of interpreting existing blender materials, that's how I work currently using Blender and Thea, and I would much rather be using Maxwell. (not to disparage Thea users!, just my preference)

Anyway, just my 2c :)

Thank you,

I of course am very interested, though I feel a bit uneasy donating significant amounts of money, to someone I don't know...
For me the most important feature would be animation support, whether this is directly from whithin blender, or the ability to export a series of mxm's. Consequences of this feature, would be the need for:

- being able to apply maxwell materials to objects in blender(maxwell reference materials would be fine, though I'd like to be able to use animated textures as well, so than that would be problematic).
- being able to set camera and render settings from whithin blender
- being able to export all animation, no matter what type (skeletal, shape, vertex...)
