Going through and ensuring there is suitable variation in material ID colour could be greatly assisted if the options for view style in the preview window included the Material ID as an option.

Would be cool too if when clicking down through the material list to quickly set material ID colours when the next material is clicked the material editor lans at the setting last edited - in this case the material ID - massive time saver and stops one by mistake changing all there un-mapped materials (0 reflectance) to bright funky colours.
