GPU preview engine ..

hi !

people are waiting for maxwell rendering on GPUs which would certainly be great. but what about a realtime preview engine in studio that natively works with mxms, hdri, that gives a 90% rough approximation of the final rendering with bump, GI, (blurry) reflections and so on before kicking off a real rendering ?

something like this:

and so on ..

I would love that kind of instant preview in viewport.

I would love to see a simple shaded preview of slightly bigger models in viewport first...
everything above wireframe is is not possible mostly.:(

And sun shadow cast!!! :(

oh thanks about the iRay link. i've not seen this yet.

this stuff is hot !

i mean i love maxwell, but honestly, maxwell must jump over to GPUs because those speed demos are just incredible. who wants to wait for two hours to get an image that can otherwise be rendered in 20 seconds? of course iRay and those other GPU renderers (no idea about fry rt's approach) are biased and not really physically correct, but at some point really the quality of the textures or realistic shaders will be a more dominating factor than the difference between biased and unbiased renderings.

let's hope future will show us maxwell running on GPUS !!!

iRay it think is an unbiased renderer no? sure looks to take that apporach and use real world bsdf data and settings n such..

BUT yES +1 err +10 maxwell needs to TAKE advantage of GPU wheather is a preview engine or just using the GPU to help calculate final renders we are only using a fraction of our potential render power with maxwell as it is.. so it needs to have gpu support
-I must say the maya panel withhmaxwell is a nice start already.. shows blurry reflections from roughness n such.. but i want the gpu to help accelerate my rendertimes

I remember the Radium render which is progressive interactive unbiased renderer, but it's almost dead.
It was not fast, but the attempt and approach was very impressive.

I agree with you, this would be great as an option for the main engine, not just quick preview.

more realtime help of any kind to set up renders and materials would be very welcome!

those links show some impressive stuff.

OpenCL maybe?

open cl or cuda ..

but i guess open cl would be better since it's not "nvidia only" like cuda.

Maxwell supporting GPU calculations (OpenCL or CUDA): YEAH BABY!

Just heard about Arion, a new unbiased hybrid CPU-GPU renderer, based upon Fryrender.

If Fryrender can be turned into a GPU renderer, it's time for Maxwell to catch up with the speedy competition. I'd like to stick to Maxwell, but my render-heart aches when I see the near-realtime results in the Arion, Iray and V-Ray RT GPU demo videos.

One has to wonder with Fry though as to whether it will actually ever happen! Then there is quality of course!

Oh it has happened! Though man 800 euro???? Not on my list!
