an option to allow only specified emitters from the total emitter count to be added to multilight at render time.
This way we can render a large number of different emitters while still being able to adjust the chosen few.

Could you explain the benefit of this? Why not just add all the emitters to multilight- does that increase render time or something?

This has 6 emitters on multilight
The highest res I can achieve with 16 gb ram is 3k x 4k.
Putting only half the emitters on multilight should enable a larger resolution render as the mxi will be smaller.

This is exactly what I was saying in my muilti light post. Your statement is just less confusing :D . I think it would be good if you could toggle on and off, in the emitter material, which emitters you wanted to be included in a multi light rendering .

you can just 'attach' all your emitters together into one object and have only one multilight control for them all - this will overcome the problem with ram and ensure consistency when adjusting the lights.

note - make sure you up the strength of your emitter material however as the increased 'footprint' of the grouped lights will lower overall output in real terms.
