SSS depth color

it's be very cool to have a way to determine in which depth of a surface, which color is.
this example shows what i mean:
sample:
maybe some type of texture could be used that acts as a gradient definitions. left to right defines depth in, top to bottom the actual color...
something like this, similar to the direction texture of the anisotropic attribute.
