Being able to drop a picture into to a scene background

So you can see what angle to render the object at , for example you are creating a rendering for a desk top item and you want the angle to look right...
You take a real picture from the angle you want , birds eye behinda cup , behind someones head and then have that in place as a translucent image into studio as positional reference.
i am thinking this trough correctly or is it 2 days no sleep catching up !
