Max 7.5 "real world" texture scale

Hi all,
I know that up 'til now Max users control mapping through UVW modifiers - but the new "real world scale" option in the Max 7.5 bitmap slot would be very useful to work with in M~R, esp. for Revit / Inventor users...
Just thought I'd throw it out there
Aloha,

:: that is something i always wanted to see in pareticular in Max...
Some applications alredy do something similar, and i think despite problems it might cause, it would be a great toot to have.

Hi Fritz, what means the "real world scale"?
is this a relationship with the Bitmap DPI <=> and geometry scale?
thx ludi

Hi ludi (I love that avatar, BTW!)
Yes, well, pretty close: it's not between DPI / scene geometry, but rather between the image dimensions / scene geometry:
"UVW mapping improvement — Place physically scaled materials onto objects in the scene more easily and accurately with support for real-world measurements"
---
It's not that it's so hard to set up traditional UVW mapping per se, but if you're working with a lot of dynamically imported objects (i.e. some structure from Revit with multiple components - hundreds of doors, windows, hardware objects, etc.) it takes a lot of time to apply mapping, and it used to change with every new design change.
The whole idea (I think anyway) with this improvement in 7.5 is not to save you the trouble of UVW mapping objects, but rather to make it possible to continuously import design changes from a DWG based application without having to go through an entire texturing exercise every time you do it.
Cheers! -F
