I don´t know has someone already wished thes options but..
It would be very useful if you could place hdri straight in the material.
And it would be also nice to select those objects which will reflect hdri and which won´t.

You can make this with an emitter layer in the material, Choose MXI texture and it allows to place either an mxi or an hdr.

It seem to need way too much memory - can´t do it that way.
I still think that there is a smarter way to solve this thing.
So check above what I was wishing

you could use a small HDRI! I often resize HDRI to just a couple hundred pixels for lighting anyway.

I think he wants to control which surfaces reflect the hdri, and be able to control this directly.

That's the second wish, I think the answers were meant for the first one.
So something like a per surface control, or per object?

I'm trying to imagine a scenario in which this would be useful. To me, this would be one of those options that other renderers use to "fake" reflectiveness. Since Maxwell by design takes all objects and environment into account for all objects in the scene for lighting and reflections, I think to take reflections away or add reflections where they don't belong, is to create an unrealistic render.

My client(very big one) is asking me to do unrealistic images - imagine that

..if I can´t do it - I will loose this job.
Sometimes rendered images in commercials are unrealistic. Thats why I´m asking it. I recieved one sample image yesterday and have to say that those were horrible but you gonna do.

I understand completely. You gotta do what you gotta do. Sometimes I have to use the mental ray ink and paint materials...
