Auto - Exposure/Calibration Function, ala Mike Verta's video

Perhaps MXCL could have a function that would automatically identify the lowest exposure (highest F-stop value) at which the hot spot on an object in the scene assigned a white 242 material returns a brightness value of 242 in the rendered image.
One might have to indicate to MXCL which object to use as the target of this procedure; perhaps some special tag assigned to the object in Studio, or as a tag function in the plug-ins for various packages, or a tag in the material definition itself.
This is, of course, assuming that I understand how this calibrating works in the first place (not a comment on Mike's explanation; rather, a comment on my I.Q.) But if I do have it right, that seems to be something that would not be too difficult to impliment, though I am no programmer.
What say ye?
