I don't know has anyone wished this before but..
I think that it would be nice if there was IES file support.
What do you think?

want that, too, please.

it should has been already asked, but it's not the philosophy of Maxwell!
Model the spots as in reality to have such effects!

It is fine to model the lighting fixture and source of light (the lamp) if that is the subject itself, but when it comes to creating architectural interior visualizations, I would rather use the readily availeable collections of lighting geometry + IES illuminator combos. Those are then minor details, acting in sub roles for the big picture.
Technically I cannot say for sure if implemention of IES is easy or not with Maxwell engine, but I would like to guess that it can managed and it would be worth of doing. With Vray they behave very well creating controllable fast and accurate illumination.

Why IES? Is it best suported format by lighting companies? Or it is somewhat obsolete? It seem to me that lighting companies tend to support ULD ( Dialux) or LTD (Elumndat) better.
IES is supported by renderers which fault to render tiny luminous geometry.
It is not versatile solution in any case.
My vote is -1

In my opinion, IES is not useful in Maxwell.
We could start a database and download area for anyone who wants to upload lighting models based on real light sources...

anything,
ies,eul...
whatever format would be a very good time saving feature...
imagine the computational overload to calculate light path through a fresnel lense...
if you think that models can be a solution you really haven't tried to use a glass material or you have a cray.
G.
please add ies support (if feasible with your rendering engine).

Something that acted "like" and IES system for maxwell would be great. I have done some playing around - and so have many others to a much higher level than me - and simulating spotlights etc is brutal in Maxwell. They look great, but the slowdown and noise are really problematic. Some kind of IES "cheat" system would be a huge benefit, but I have no idea if it's feasible or not.

For Lighting Design projects you need IES (Which I have one right now and Maxwell doesn't support my files) its very important to have correct values of the light, not just a random plane that emits light from the selection list.
I hope it will be a new feature that supports IES in the next release, or maybe in Ver 2.
