region-render: material-ID

imagine.
You see in a finished rendering that only one material looks bad and You would want to re-render all the regions where this specific material is seen, with a different material.
or You reach a certain SL with which You're happy, but only one material is still noisy. like this, the rendering could be aborted, the material selected and using the whole cpu power concentrating on this region only.
this would also be very simple to implement... ! just an «updated» region render !
[ i know, it would be a problem for color bleeding when replacing a red material to a green one, but that is a small disadvantage! ]
NL... ?

Hi deadalvs,
I dont know if i understand correctly what you are asking here.
I already used a similar technic a couple of times (see below).
I suppose if i have this particular material in more than one place in the image, then this thecnic turns out usless.
Best regards,
Nuno

ah, so it was not totally clear... sorry.
the region You drew is a rectangle to refine that particular area with all visible materials in that area. but what i'm asking for would be not a rectangular area but the area which is covered by one material only.
in Your image, let's say You wanted to re-render all the wooden parquet to reach a higher SL, You never could do that by a rectangle... You would need a pixel selection that looks like the material ID of the parquet...
clear now ? just render exactly all the pixels of ONE material...

In fact, it was possible in the beta version, we were using an alpha channel for a region render. NL, please............

ah that worked already... !?!
so it should not be complicated to implement again.

i started with RC 2 or 3, so i missed that feature.

I wish maxwell had something like frys aeronoise (
http://fryrender.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1940).
When i had read the first info about maxwells coming blow up feature, i had imagined exactly something like this.
