this would be absolutely great for compositing...

The lack of a shadow matte object has made it so that we don't use Maxwell for any compositing shots, which is too bad because we absolutely would otherwise. But we have to use a different renderer that supports shadow matte surfaces so that we can collect the shadows for later compositing.

But I appreciate that this requires significant attention in a Maxwell-style renderer in order to produce correct results. It's a very touchy problem.

ya i wanted to use a AGS type solution to creat a "shadow" matte. .but it hasnt worked out yet.. but i was thinking of that since the ags has a ghost layer.. i thought that ghost layer could catch a shadow.. but no.. so maybe there could be a way of doing shadow matte with ags type trick?

but shadow catcher seems prety vital to be able to composite..
