optimized compression method

olĂ  !

we all know .zip, .rar and other standards.

now i'd like NL to develop their individual file compression system that crunches as good as possible.

people say there are solutions around that compress up to a factor 100... (does this work with .mxi files?)

I doubt that will help much.

An MXI I just zipped went from 108 down to 97,4 MB, so obviously it doesn't
compress very well if compressed loss-less. Other algorithms may crunch
out another 10%, but what for? The time loss introduced isn't worth it.

Whoever claims a factor 100 compression has no clue about compression,
not even with lossy formats.

it seems quite logically that there is really not much to do since an .mxi is filled up to the top with data, i wanted to ask about the technical possibility.

what for ? to send files over the internet.
