Working with objects

Hi all:
I use to work with 3dsmax, but at the moment, i´m working and rendering with Maxwell Studio. I´ve found this so hard to work (easy, but hard). I miss a lot of tools, first of all, a "lock selection" buttom. A lot of times is so hard to move objects inside a room using orthogonal proyections (top, left, front.....). When i try to move an object, most of the time you have a wall behind that object, and you pick that wall instead of the "chair" you are trying to move (for example). It is so hard to work this way. A lot of times is so easier to bring the geometry copied and placed where they are going to be, but then you need to apply materials to a lot of objects, instead of bringing one object->apply material->duplicate the object...
The second thing i´m having a lot of problems with is working with groups. Maybe, i don´t know how to do it well, but if i duplicate a group and try to rotate it, each object rotates about it´s own pivot point, and i wish that all the objects inside a group will rotate with only one pivot point, centered in the group.
Don´t know if you have this kind of problems, or if it is just me who don´t know how to do this kind of things. At the moment, this is so hard and too much time consuming to work this way.
Please, if i´m doing something wrong, tell me. Thanks in advance, and sorry if i haven´t explain so clear my "problems", atm my english is not so good.

Hi, David. welcome.

I'm 3dsmax user too.

but why did you work many things with maxwell studio?

In my case, I'm doing all of my work in 3dsmax except envirionment setting.

I'm just use studio for setting of my MXI background setting because it is easy to preview.

Don't doing many work with studio.

Maxwell has already nice plugin for 3dsMax.

but anyway,

the upgrade of maxwell studio is not bad thing.

improvement is always welcome. :D

Hmmm, maybe you are right, and as long as i´ve been working only for 7 days with MR, my next step will be work in max and render in maxwell with the plugin. But, is it that hard to implement what i´m asking?

I just do everything in Max, export an MXM.

Then I load Studio, load the MXM, check all the main settings for rendering, sky light etc, then just let it render away.

Haven't used Studio for much at all. It isn't really required when you can do everything in 3DS Max.

to move or rotate the objects in Studio... open the objects panel parameters, look at position or rotation or even scale... MMB click and drag the numbers... much easier, and so you won't select by mistake other objects from the scene...
