Basicallhy.. I find when i work with the material editor and change a value. .esp if i have the quality set to 10.. and it takes a long time to update..i might walk away.. and i want to see how the change I just made effected the look of the shader. .

SO my WISH..

under the preview window there be a scoll bar that lets you scoll back to what the shader looked like before the changes got rendered.
the Best would be a "cache" setting in the options window that would let you set wheter you wanted material editor to keep n number of cache steps. so you can tell it to hold the last 3 renders to flip back to them and see how the shader has progressed as you made changes...

I figure this would be simple. .just keep the old renders for that material as jpgs in a temp cache folder..

but an ADvanced version of this would be to be able to right clicked and selecte "revert to this state" on the pic of one of the old renders to Revert back to those settings.. BUT to be safe a window would pop up saying: "current setting will be lost -material will be reverted back to this cached material settings are you sure Yes -No ?" this msg would ensure that you really want to revert back to settings in case you accidentaly clicked that option.
this advance version would mean not only does the cache folder hold jpgs but a cached history of mxms..

maybe this can be done in steps.. fisrt implemt the simple version w/o rever..and then implemt the revert to cahced settings later.

Good idea

A work around would be to open 2 material editors with the same material and
edit one a keep the other as it was so you can view any changes.

Its not the best solution but it works for me :)
