Actually I really only want to make an HDRI from some of my backgrounds, which are currently jpegs, to use as a background only, possibly reflection as well, in the Maxwell plugin for MAX.
Is there an easy way to change a jpeg into MXI or HDRI for me to use in the background slot?? Thanks
Regards Peter.

Found this link under homemade HDRI, from a search.

Can someone tell me how to find or open the Maxwell viewer to make MXI out of my jpegs??
Thanks.
Regards Peter.

Yeh I'd like a link to a HDRI tutorial as well. Sometimes I cant seem to get them to map correctly in Studio.

You must launch MXCL.exe
There you open your image from the file menu, you adjust the intensity value and save it as MXI. Here you are.

Pierre - I tried your suggestion. I had to open mxcl from render from Max and then open jpeg saved as MXI, and then get an error when I reload mxs in studio and try to add MXI to background channel. I'll try to add in MAX plugin and generate mxs from that to see if that works.
Are there other considerations when making MXI file? Size of jpeg??
Thanks.
Regards Peter.

What is the error you get?
You can also open mxcl from a command line window, just type mxcl -d
(-d for display).
