possibility to import lighting data in .ies format

I would appreciate if maxwell were able to read lighting data from producers such eas erco, zumtobel and so on. I know that this would e aginst next limits philosophy as there are no pointed light sources in nature, but it would just facilitate one work if you have to use existing products in your visualisation.

Yes it breaks the whole idea of 'Maxwell the Light Simulator' not having ies etc.
I understand that the data is only an approximation especially at close distances but that should really open the door for a new standard not remove ies from consideration.
I also imagine that ies lights being such a crude approximation would render faster than physically accurate unbiased lights - should we ever be able to choose such a compromise.
I'm happy with Maxwell, but this would make me much happier.

well yes in fact that would be nice.
i think ies data would not be much more fake than using a hdri/mxi file for light....
so for me it fits into beeing physical correct.
