Importing and Exporting Materials

Considering all the problems with the MXM Gallery, where you can find missing maps and missing ior files, as well as wrong material names (one name in the filename and other if imported), it is obvious that a more sophisticated material exporting and importing tool is needed.

In the same way as the pack and go tool, makes sure everything what is needed, will be saved, a pack and go material tool would be of great help.
In the same way, an importing material tool, will be needed, so that it will save all the files that needs certain material, on the righ folders.

This tool will need to be customizable, in case you have several licences so that it will not be needed to perform the material importing procedure in each machine. Instead it could be set so that it will recognize server folders for ior files map files etc.

You have the "Extract materials from scene" command in MXED and the material editor in Studio (File menu), which lets you pick an mxs to extract the materials from and specify a folder.

In 1.5 the path issues have been removed since Studio looks in a lot more places for textures, plus it looks in the paths you have set in your prefs.

In the upcoming patch you can also select multiple materials to import into Studio, you don't have to select them one by one.
