This would really make me happy

I wonder how much would be the speed increment to move from 32 to 64 bits?

I guess it's impossible to tell, but in Lightwave the renderspeed seems to be between x2 & x3 that of the 32-bit version.......in my tests anyway, it's dependant on complexity but there's a marked difference on all scenes.
I'm hoping we'll get a similar result in MWR..........better than that and I'll be doing cartwheels.

oh!
So, this must be in the NL plans, since such an improvement may mean that more jobs will be possible to be rendered with Maxwell!
I second your wish!

I don't really understand why releasing 64 bit versions of 3D software isn't the first priority for 3D software developers. Doesn't make sense to me... most of the problems people run into in 3D have to do with memory issues or speed issues - especially with a product like Maxwell.
They have advertised it for quite some time... why not release it? I have made purchase decisions based on this alone... 64 bit is a big deal and it seems to me that Next Limit could really benefit from acutally releasing it.
Basically I just don't understand why you wouldn't if you could.
Just my thoughts.

Not enough 64bit users, that's why. On this board we have like maybe 5% on 64bit machines, sounds risky to me. I agree though that they will anyway have to make the change sooner or later. I really doubt much speed improvement though, usually 64bit != 32bitx2 when it comes to speed but maxwell has been unusual in many ways so who knows. I simply see the benefit in the memory department where we can finally do the next leap and overcome our current 3GB barrier, that's good stuff.

With Windows Vista release, I guess every developer might go for 64bit by then.

I'm totally with 3dgeek, moving SW to 64-bit should be the priority for every developer out there in 3d land.
The RAM aspect is of course an issue, but not as big as you might think. Moving to 4gig didn't make my machines fly any faster, in fact the 2gig X2 is still able to handle everything I throw at it and is even a shade faster than the 4gig box. IMHO it's mainly about addressing larger packets of data to the CPU, especially where rendering is concerned............on this aspect alone LW9 [64] seems to be 300% quicker than LW9 [32]. So for Maxwell, just imagine a 12hr render cooking in 4...........what luxury.

I just jump in to support the 64 bit request. I m now have a dual boot machine and use 64 bit LW9, and the speed increase is amazing. If it's the same with other 3D apps, probably a lot of people on this board will go for 64 bit OS.

My only point is that as a developer of a 3D renderer (especially one like Maxwell), you already have a 64 bit version that you are developing right along side the 32 bit version... why not release it? What's the wait? Are they waiting for more 64 bit users? Why? I don't see a bad side to releasing it... that's all I am saying.
Mild rant over.

When you find answers to your questions please let me know... I'm with you all the way, I will never understand that...

I want that 64 bits version too. Maxwell crashes if needs more than 1.5GB to load a scene.

Hi all,
64 bits version is already in testing phase and it might be ready for the next update.
Kind regards,
Juan
