MXS External references

As soon as the MXS and DXF import options are improved, it would be great to go further to an external reference MXS file reading feature.
In this way we can have a complex scene divided into several pieces, easy to edit and work with, while reading the whole thing from a mother mxs file, from which it can be rendered the final image.

The basic rules on how could the external files be seen from the mother file, whould be equivalent to the import option.
For instance if we have a mxs file which has 3 objects inside and none group, if viewed from the mother file we will see a group which name should be the external file name, and that should contain the 3 objects inside.

Perhaps there should be 2 kind of groups, on one side groups in the file, and on the other hand groups that represents external files.

There should be a priority in case of material assignements and other stuffs.

I have got a problem with the MXS file.
I cannot erase the objects that I need to erase, without crashing Studio.

My problem now is that I have a corrupted file, and have no option to recover all the time invested, because it is all in the same file.
I predicted this could happen, but didn,t expected it to happen to me that soon!

My wish again is that Maxwell Studio could read external references mxs files.

If it could read external references of MXS files, It would be possible to replace the broken file by a new and empty one!
Now the only way is to start again from scratch.

Everything was imported as individual objects into the Maxwell Studio, and scaled and placed in the right position. I have the individual files but have to recreate the complete scene and camera again. This is not automatic at all, since the only way to get the right viewpoint is by trial and error, so I will need to re-render several times before I can get to the previous result.
Considering that the rendering time is arround 20 hours, you can imagine all the lost time.

This case is similar to the way Zbrush(2) reads objects and assign only one material. (but zb keeps uvs)

The best thing for maxwell could be a "Split object" into logical parts. I don't think it should be difficul, since Maxwell embed the "expand selection to connected polygons..so Maxwell already know a part of the work)
off course the difficulty is when a single object got more than one "uvs set, or shadin domain, call it as you want). In this case , the "split object into parts" could be based on the number of detected uvs sets, and the number or of polygons groups. So even if uvs are not set, the scene groups could be found again
:)
By the way, autocad is not the best modeler ever ^^ , (private joke) and sometimes, people have some headaches with it. (reading the number of trheads about Autocad issues all around the web) :?

Yes it is true!
There are other tools that are great as sketchup or the great packages as Rhino Maya Max etc that have better and more intuitive tools.

What Autocad has is that it is a standard. Its politic of upgrading, makes easy to move to the next version, and there are lot of people that can work on it.
If you plan a working team, it seems the right choise, even if you have certain limits that could be overcomed by importing parts from other softwares.
