Please describe a situation that you would like to lock your materials.
I am very curious to hear why someone gives away some materials and doesn't permit the other person to change them (!)

It would be really nice to have a locked mxs file for sending a scene to a renderfarm where the materials and scene objects could not be extracted.

yes exactly Mihai.

- second, if you have a office with some people working for you from time to time, some fix but some changing( i trust my fix ones),
or having interns from time to time i would prefer to know they cant just copy all my work(materials) in which i put hundrets of workhours in it.

- third, if using copyrighted textures in it, it is also a legal question if you give some renders out of house to a render farm or someone else...

i guess it should be fairls simple to have an optional protection to saved materials-so the render, they can be asigned to objects by helpers, but they cannot be changed without password.

How about this

INSTEAD of passwordprotect the MXM, you EXPORT the MXM to another file
format like MXC, "Maxwell Crypted file format".

The file by it self could be loaded but not tamperd with and hide the settings
so it can not be reproduced... AND the MXC file could have a feature to
enable it to be locked to an MXS Scene with unique CRC check ID.
