Load KML file...working!

Dear NL-Team,

please make the LOAD KML FILE in the sky options dialog working (for both: studio and plugins).
It would be very useful too if the location height over 0.00 (sea level) could be added too

At the moment you only get Latitude and Longitude 0 with any google earth saved KML-file.

Is this a bug or only disabled?

Thanx,

Regards, Roman

as there is not height over sea level option - which BTW would be great - what do you want more to be imported from the kml?

@thxraph: as written above: that the location values come into the sky-options (for me here only 0 for KML-files)...

Hi Romans, I tested again and it's working here, which plugin are you using?

Hello Tom,

thank you for your attention.

i am using the max plugin, but in studio (V1.1) it is the same result for me:

everytime when I load a kml-file, saved in google earth, I get no values for Latitude and Longitude, they will state 0 both. So I dont know what is wrong. Or have I to opt for another method? (simply typin in the values is possible too.... :) )

What about the height value?

Thanks for answering.

Height is not supported because Maxwell doesn't have altitude support, only at sea level. KML files are working fine both with 3dsmax plugin and Studio here. Can you send me a KML file which fails?

Hello Tom,

thank you for taking time for this problem (which might be none?).

I have just sent you some kml-files for checking.

The height issue: If there is no height support then we will have to rise our geometries to the desired levels...for example a city at +300 m we have to lift up the situation to this +300 m to get the right light conditions.

Or am I wrong?

Hi Romans,

No, I mean current sky model of Maxwell does not take care of height. It wouldn't make difference rendering something 300 m above or below.

And I checked the KML files you've sent. There are 2 issues about these:

1 - Maxwell doesn't support KML files which store multiple locations.
2 - Maxwell doesn't support KML files which doesn't have snapshots.

Here are the solutions to the corresponding issues above:

1- Open KML file in Google Earth and save each place individually.
2- Open KML file, righclick on placemark and select "Snapshot view" then save.

Now , they should work ;)
Let me know if you have further problems.

Best regards,
Tom

Hello Tom,

thank you very much for answering quickly!!

Now with your help it is working fine here. :D

No problems so far.

Last question or whish:
There are plans to implement height in the sky model?
This would be very good.

Thanks again.
