dust medium

hey NL.

i'd like to have a dust medium, like an environment setting for volumetric lighting renderings.

imagine church renderings, lamps glowing disco balls casting rays throughout the room...

maybe, this medium should have clippable volumes, for instance a car interior cruising through a foggy landscape.

Did someone render something foggy in those alpha days? If yes, where could I have a look?

That would be great - although I've seen some very nice looking workarounds done by Michael.

These are the only ones I could find from the Alpha days...... This was deactivated when Beta came out, and supposed to come back as a standard feature. However, I've pretty much given up hope that we will ever see it again...

It's funny.... well, not really.... . But this fog feature is one of the things that convinced me to buy Maxwell in the first place.

Usually, when someone says that something is "temporarily" de-activated, that usually means that it will re-appear again in a reasonable amount of time....

Here we are, two years later......... :?

That is a very good question!

Juan?

Anyone?

Are we ever going to see a feature we originally paid for, or are we going to be getting more whiz-bang, super-duper, gosh-gee-willicker gadgets that we never asked for?

Will version 1.6 (or are we jumping straight to 1.9) include the long-awaited, SimuThumbâ„¢ - which accurately simulates someone leaving their thumb over the lens while taking a picture...........

not much, I seem to remember. I remember doing a couple of tests with volumetric caustics and light, and even though the result were in a way amazing back then, the implementation was hardly usable. along with fog there was another feature which has disappeared after the alpha days: light bounces control. even when we had total control on how many times light could bounce around, when fog was enabled render times really tend to go mental, it was almost impossible to get a clean render out of it.
