i think because maxwell works with spetral color it would be nice to be able to select coror by its spectral wavelenght. recently i read a post that some one was trying to replicate the Pantone color system, which is imposible with RGB selection becuse a lot of pantone coors are outside the RGB gamut. but you can easyaly find online the spectral wavelenght of Pantone colors and a lot of other comom material. also spectrophotometers are fairly inexpensive and protable if you want to realy get surface values correct.
