Asssign emitters to specifc materials, objects.

It would be very helpful for my jewelry renders to be able to assign emitters to specific materials or group or objects. ie some illumnate the precious metal, others illuminate the gems, and maybe others light up the background.
This is easily done in C4D with "include/exclude" lists for all lights.
Very handy indeed.
As Maxwell now stands, it requires multiple renders and compositing in PS. Why is that smart/efficient/desireable/more marketable?
