My workflow is Modelling in VectorWorks then exporting to Cinema4D (through the Maxon plug-in) and then to Maxwell Studio.

The problem I am having is numerous polygons in M-Studio with no names which makes it impossible to work with. e.g. the walls, roof and contoured ground gets exported to Cinema4D as polygons (thousands), Cinema4D groups them under 'walls', 'roof' and 'ground' which is easy to handle however these polygons gets exported to M-Studio as un-named polygons. Hope this makes sense.

I have tried a dxf from VectorWorks to M-Studio and it works quite well however M-Studio cannot save the file (*.mxs).

I would like to request some sort of export option from within Cinema4D controlling how the mxs file is exported e.g. how 'C4D groups' are handled.

Thanks.

Helo Shaun,

We will consider your suggestiong, thank you very much.

This is because when importing the dxf file, a new projector is created for each object. When the geometry is degenerated in some way ( for instance duplicate vertex, triangles with null area..) some texture coordinates could have wrong values and it can cause the saving process fails. You can delete the projectors or even disable the preference to create projectors when importing dxf files. We have done this process more robust for the next patch. Meanwhile I encourage you to disable this preference and save the mxs file; then you can work with the mxs to create all the projectors you need. When a mxs is saved, the geometry is checked to fix degeneration issues, so working with a mxs file you will not get this sort of problems.

Juan

Thanks Juan for your quick response. I will give your suggestion a try.

Thanks again and thanks to the hard work everyone at NL is doing including the A-Team.

Hi Juan,

we are alos doing architecture with cinema 4d,
a option to keep grouping would really be handsome:-)

if possible also grouping in different levels of groups (group of groups) like this is done in cinema. right now it seems studio only like one level deep groups, so i dont know if it is doable.

thanks
cheers

If the dxf “import to scene” command is improved, I won’t need a plug-in for VectorWorks. The export from VectorWorks to MStudio works pretty well except for these trivial bugs:

Firstly, “Keep materials assignment” works the opposite-if I want to keep the changed materials to my studio objects, I have to un-check this option. One would think this should be ticked if I want to “keep” my changed materials.
Workaround - Uncheck ‘Keep materials assignment’

Secondly, due to the cryptic material names from the dxf files, I rename the material however when importing the ‘changed’ dxf file the object looses the renamed material assigned to it.
Workaround – Don’t rename

I’m sure these are easy bugs to sort out and I have faith NL will fix them.

Thanks.
