Revit 9 plugin...

Greetings,

This is my first post on this forum. (yes, I did a check for past posts regarding Revit plugins...so please hesitate before ripping me about that)

Just a thought, Revit 9 is out now, and although I don't know the details I read that it's supposed to have a revised API. Maybe its time to take another look?

An Autocad export would be a poor substitute because although Revit exports *.dwg files, the materials do not go through properly to *.dwg. Open a Revit export in Autocad and you will see a model without textures. And of course to use Autocad to render out to Maxwell you would have to have a license to both programs...an expensive and unnecessary option. Revit+Maxwell...really, that's a dream combination, it seems a shame not to have Revit in the Maxwell plugin list.

YES!!!YES!!!YES!!! Revit plugin!!!

I was getting dissapointed, I thought I was the only one using Revit around here... If you look at my older posts and wishlist you'll see...

I don't agree about AutoCAD export. Yes, there are no textures when you go from RVT ->DWG but everything else is working perfectly.
Also there is a Revit + AutoCAD (Revit Series) in a very good price comparing to Revit alone.
Anyway, AutoCAD plugin is a must-have.
The other way to do this is to go RVT->DWG and link to VIZ/MAX. This way you need to pay more.

REVIT! Of course!
A good rendering solution is just the missing link.

[OFF TOPIC] I am interested in Revit but don't know much about it; maybe you can enlight me. How is it for non-standard architecture? Does it let you enough freedom for unusual shapes? Thanks [OFF TOPIC]

Clarification.

From Revit you can export DXF, DWG, SAT, and DGN, all of them without materials. If you use 3dsmax or 3dsViz though, Autodesk has gone to great trouble to design a special importer for the DWG format that includes the ability to read Revit materials. They have not added a 3ds or OBJ exporter to Revit because if they did that their customers would flock to other more cost effective rendering programs (e.g. like Maxwell, Vue d'espirit, Lightwave, etc.), rather than be forced to use Max or Viz.

pschuyler, looks like you do have no way to get to M~R without an intermediate program, unless you can export to a meshed DXF directly, which is unlikely since AC does not...
Is it even possible to mesh your solids directly in a copy of your scene?

The real problem with Revit, at least untill the last release was the lack of API and you can't write plugins if you don't have API.
My question is : Why NL didn't bother to write a plugin for AutoCAD? Every one can write apps working from inside AutoCAD. There are thousands of applications inside ACAD. Consider also the millions of possible NL customers because of ACAD. Can someone justify such a delay for ACAD plugin?
Maybe an official answer from NL? Isn't that strange?

Because from AC you can export to 3DS, reimport and then go out to DXF so, even though it is a bit convoluted, you can get into M~R directly from AC.
Also, they might be thinking that any one modelling in AC and rendering, already uses one of the popular rendering packages for which they have provided a plugin.
