I wish... that I could use max when the MXE was open

Seems a bit silly that the maxwell material editor locks max untill you close it. Isn't there a better way?

try to close the cmd prompt window which pop up with mxed...

@ Dennis, in fact it doesn't...
btw, another tip to open mxed is to type mxed under start>run: now you can play with it even without no other application opened (neither studio, nor max, nor whatever)... and you can always place a shortcut to it wherever you want it. hope it helps.
