If it could be possible to create custom cameras, I would do a panoramic one.
Please make it possible!!!

Has anyone made one using the existing camera and stitching the images with panorama creation software?

Yes, I did, but in my opinion it is a waste of time and memory, to get to a bad quality result.
The transformations from 6 cubic images to a single spherical panorama, are too drastic, that image quality is seriously compromised in relationship to the rendering time and memory usage.
There is an aditional problem: the so called vigneting problem, which has to be corrected, which degrades the image even more.
A direct spherical panoramic image would be the best solution.

Add my vote. In fact, I would like to be able to model any specialty camera. We could have a camera file in the same way that we have mxm files and be able to create all sorts of effects.
It's phisicaly correct, right, so this should be doable, albeit slow to render methinks.

Forget stitching. The road to success is to get vignetting fixed and go for cubic. Actually I'm pretty close to it.

Interesting .. but not sure I understand correctly.
Do you mean that if we can make cubic images without vignetting, then we will be able to easily stitch them together to make spherical views (eg. for spherical environment lighting) ?
Thanks

GoCubic is standalone, isn't it? It takes .tif images.

Kabe,
Have you gotten close to, or finished, finding a way to correct the vignetting?
