I think any time a 3D noise function is added to software it's good if possible to extend it to 4D, so that the color = f(x, y, z, t) and not just f(x, y, z)
That way you can animate and evolve the texture by translating it in t, rather than having to translate it in x, y, or z and trying to disguise the translation.
