Production engine using GPU.

I doubt that such a big improvement would be part of some minor 3.x build

yes maybe because they already share a viedo about gpu
but what about other features
every day users share their wishes and some wishes take years or never added to maxwell

Most of the wishes are not making any sense though.

must be something GPU cooking with NL ... can't believe they will let the competition get so close.

For that Octane Render...
... the specs:
8000x4800px
21mil Poly’s
7.5GB GPU Memory
Dual nVidia TitanX GPU
50 hours render time
Octane 3.0 Alpha

About Indigo 4... will be pure GPU (OCL). Not production ready, assuming a year maybe.

So still walking on thin ice.

For now CPU engines hold the upper hand & Maxwell~R is known for it's correctness when it comes to simulating light taking no shortcuts, ease of use and it's Studio (stand alone) version.
What would be nice though (a wish) - for Maxwell to have a Multilight export (as an "app" or a "player"), so architects/clients could play with & set lighting as they please, by themselves.

There is interior scene available on blenderartists used to test renderman I think, maybe it's worth to try

I've tried playing with the interior bedroom scene they provide.
blazing fast. the overall quality looks a bit less than maxwell's super-photo realism, but the speed is worth it.
got me thinking, and that's a lot, after using maxwell since 1.0 .....
